Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware: BIU: Spiele-Verkaufszahlen und BIU Sales Awards
Mehr als 50 Spiele wurden im letzten Jahr vom Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware (BIU) mit einem oder mehreren "BIU Sales Awards" ausgezeichnet. Die Auszeichnung honoriert verkaufsstarke Spiele in Deutschland auf Basis der Abverkaufszahlen von media control GfK (Vollpreisversionen von Datenträgern; keine digitalen Verkäufe) - je nach Erfolg auf den einzelnen Plattformen kann ein Spiel mehrfach belohnt werden.
Der Gold Award für mehr als 100.000 verkaufte Spiele auf einer Gaming-Plattform wurde 72 Mal verliehen. 34 Mal wurde das Platin-Level für mehr als 200.000 verkaufte Spiele erreicht. Insgesamt zehn Spiele schafften es auf mehr als 500.000 abgesetzte Exemplare, davon vier plattformübergreifend (BIU Multiplattform Award) und sechs auf einer Plattform (BIU Sonderpreis). Spitzenreiter im Jahr 2010 war FIFA 11. Das Spiel knackte im Dezember plattformübergreifend die eine Million-Marke und sicherte sich damit den Titel des bestverkauften Spiels des letzten Jahres - die komplette Liste aller Spiele mit "BIU Sales Award" befindet sich weiter unten.
Auffällig ist aber auch der Unterschied in Bezug auf die Anzahl der "BIU Sales Award-Träger" zwischen Xbox 360 und PlayStation 3. Die Sony-Konsole hat deutlich mehr ausgezeichnete Spiele vorzuweisen als das Pendant von Microsoft. So haben sich beispielsweise zehn PS3-Titel über 200.000 Mal verkauft, während es bei der Xbox 360 nur zwei sind.
Allein im Dezember 2010 wurden 17 Auszeichnungen verliehen: Einen Multiplattform-Award für mehr als 500.000 verkaufte Spiele sowie einen Gold-Award für 100.000 Xbox-Spiele erhielt Call of Duty: Black Ops von Activision Blizzard. Einen weiteren Hit landete das Unternehmen mit World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Das Online-Rollenspiel für den PC erreichte aus dem Stand den Platin-Status, ebenso wie der Rennsimulator Gran Turismo 5 von Sony Computer Entertainment (PS3) und Assassins Creed: Brotherhood von Ubisoft (PS3). [...] Für die Nintendo-Plattformen erreichten im Dezember insgesamt 5 Spiele die erforderlichen Award-Grenzen. Je einen Platin-Award gab es für Wii Party (Wii) und Professor Layton und die verlorene Zukunft (DS). Gold erreichten die Nintendo-DS-Spiele Art Academy und Dragon Quest IX: Hüter des Himmels, sowie auch das Ubisoft-Spiel Just Dance 2 für Nintendo Wii.
Weitere Gold-Awards für die PlayStation 3 holten Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (EA), Mafia 2 (2K) sowie Sports Champions von Sony. Mit Halo Reach sicherte sich Microsoft Gold für sein Xbox-Spiel. EA konnte neben dem Meistertitel zwei weitere Gold-Awards einfahren: Für das PC-Spiel Fußballmanager 2011 sowie für FIFA 11 (PS2).
