BioWare: Neues Mass Effect mit Frostbite

Dass Mass Effect 3 nicht das Ende der Reihe darstellt, hatte BioWare schon lange vor dessen Stapellauf klargestellt. Das Studio betonte aber stets: Eine Rückkehr von Shepard wird es nicht geben. Dessen Geschichte sei mit dem dritten Teil abgeschlossen.

Nachdem Casey Hudson am Wochenende bereits durchblicken ließ, dass sich der nächste Vertreter der Serie in einer frühen Phase der Produktion befinde, meldet sich Yanick Roy mit einem Blog-Eintrag zu Wort. Darin bestätigt er, dass BioWare Montreal federführend an jenem Projekt arbeite und dabei vom Schwester-Studio aus Edmonton unterstützt werde. Auch teilt Roy mit, dass sich auch jenes Spiel die Frostbite-Engine zu Nutze machen werde. Die von DICE entwickelte Technologie kommt ja auch in Dragon Age III zum Einsatz.

"The other thing I can tell you is that, while it will be very respectful of the heritage built over the course of the first three games, with the original trilogy now concluded and the switch over to a new engine, we are exploring new directions, both on the gameplay and story fronts. You can still expect the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling."
