D.I.C.E. Awards 2013: Journey räumt ab
Am gestrigen Abend wurde auf dem D.I.C.E. Summit zum 16. Mal die D.I.C.E. Awards (ehemals: Annual Interactive Achievements Awards) vergeben. Große Überraschungen gab nicht zu vermelden aus Las Vegas: Das mit elf Nominierungen als Favorit ins Rennen gegangene Journey konnte insgesamt acht Preis einheimsen, darunter auch Game of the Year.
Jenova Chen hatte im Rahmen der Konferenz einen Einblick in die Produktionsgeschichte des bestverkauften PSN-Titels gegeben und dabei u.a. verraten: Nach der vereinbarten Produktionszeit von zwei Jahren sei das Spiel im Wesentlichen fertig, die Entwickler aber unzufrieden gewesen. Sony habe eingewilligt, ein drittes Jahr zu finanzieren - aber auch da sei thatgamecompany immer noch nicht am Ziel angekommen. Das letzte halbe Jahr der Produktion habe man sämtliche Ersparnisse aufgebraucht, viele Leute hätte man gar nicht mehr bezahlen können. Bei der Fertigstellung sei das Studio quasi pleite gewesen.
Telltale darf sich für sein The Walking Dead immerhin vier Awards ins Regal stellen, auch die Entwickler von XCOM: Enemy Unknown und Halo 4 wurden mehr als einmal auf die Bühne gebeten.
